IE8 Links not working outside page domain, FF working Fine

Hi

Got this really odd problem with IE8 (on Win7 x64 Ultimate).

Links on a web page that go outside the domain of the current page don't do anything Tips on how to decrease the audio of your respective canines bark at all when clicked on.
If I copy the short cut and DTH Altering The Television Problem Within Indian * For More Profit From This Segment paste into a new tab then they load ok.

For example:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx

This page has How to Resolve - images not showing in word 2007? an image link at the top that for Microsoft Answers that links to a different sub domain:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

When I click this link nothing at all happens in IE8, if I right click and select Open in a new tab, a new tab opens but just sits there "Connecting...".

Doing the same in FireFox works as expected.

What is interesting, when opening Task Manager, it seems that each time the link is clicked a new process is created for iexplore.exe *32.
Closing all "visible" IE windows leaves some of these processes behind, which have to be ended through task Solution to Error: Lost Leading Zeros manager.

I have disabled virus checkers, reset IE and removed addons, flash and java, same thing happens.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tom
